Faisal R Mahomed reposted thisSuper excited to share that, for the first time ever, Future Leaders UK has launched in #Manchester! The young people we met blew us away with their ambition, resilience, and commitment to building a brighter future, not just for themselves, but for their communities, too. Over the next few months, we’ll be working side by side with them to boost their confidence, develop their skills, and expand their access to the networks and opportunities they deserve. A massive thank you to BT Business for sponsoring our Manchester Hub and helping us reach more young people than ever before. Here’s to empowering the next generation of leaders! #FutureLeaders #SocialMobility #CorporateResponsibility #YouthEmpowerment #BuildingFutures

Faisal R Mahomed shared thisA super couple of days at my first BAPCO Annual Event! Some great updates from the Home Office Simon Parr QPM John Black, our partners IBM Andrew Doggett, from our advisory panel members Wayne Parkes and Darryl Keen, with Chris Lucas hosting across the events, and many more! A brilliant set up by Christine Beazley to enable BT/ EE’s platform for engagement with users, suppliers, partners across the ESN Ecosystem. It would be remiss of me not to mention the 3D model of ESN coverage by the team at the Home Office (see photo) (such a great idea!) Thanks to everyone who took time to engage hear us speak, engage with myself and our teams. See you at the next BAPCO!!! #PublicSafety #EmergencyServices #EmergencyServicesNetwork #BAPCO #BAPCO25 #ESN

Faisal R Mahomed reposted thisFaisal R Mahomed reposted thisWe are proud to announce that we have signed a new £1.29 billion contract with the Home Office to provide mobile services for the Government’s Emergency Services Network (ESN) over the next seven years. The ESN is a critical communications system that offers fast, secure voice, video, and data services over the 4G network, ensuring first responders have immediate access to essential information during emergencies. The contract includes maintaining and expanding the network to support over 300,000 users, providing priority access for emergency services, and managing additional coverage solutions for areas like the London Underground and specific road and rail tunnels. This new agreement extends our role in supporting the ESN, which began in 2015, and aims to enhance the network's capabilities and coverage. Faisal R Mahomed reposted thisFaisal R Mahomed reposted thisIn a digital world, we talk often about connectivity being mission-critical – and I can’t think of a clearer example of this than the networks that connect our first responders. So it’s a proud moment for us all at BT Group as we announce that we will provide mobile services for Britain’s Emergency Services Network (ESN) as it moves from build through to delivery and operation. ESN is a national critical communications system to provide fast, safe and secure 4G for Britain’s frontline emergency services. It gives first responders priority EE connectivity at all times, so they can get immediate access to life-saving data, images and information in emergency situations – on the ground, in the air and wherever they need to operate. As a longstanding ESN partner, we will continue to build, maintain and develop critical mobile coverage and capabilities for ESN as it rolls out to support more than 300,000 users. It’s part of our unrivalled work to provide the UK’s critical connectivity infrastructure – with fixed and mobile networks that are trusted to underpin essential public services across the nation. Faisal R Mahomed reposted thisFaisal R Mahomed reposted thisWhat an evening. Last night, against the backdrop of the London skyline, I came together with a number of my fellow members of The 5% Club and formally launched the Business Leadership Council atop The BT Tower. Its an exciting milestone in the history of the charity I founded ten years ago. I wanted to inspire other business leaders to encourage and welcome Apprentices and Graduates into their workforce to help build a socially mobile, prosperous and cohesive nation, and, to get young people into work. The 5% Club has come a long way since then. Today, with over 1,000 members, the Business Leadership Council is the next step. Chaired by the Rt Hon Anne Milton, it will focus on providing invaluable insights, business intelligence and practical ideas to boost The 5% Club’s impact even more. I’m excited for what the future holds. If you’re not already involved in The 5% Club but are committed to offering earn and learn opportunities in your company, do get in touch with Gill Cronin to find out more.

Faisal R Mahomed shared thisIt’s often said people will forget what you did, but the memories of how people make you feel will stay long after. It’s been an absolute privilege to have led BT’s UK Portfolio Businesses including Media & Broadcast over the last few years. An incredibly purpose driven team has meant delivering some of most transformative activities across key businesses for a wide variety of stakeholders. The journey has been made rich with incredible colleagues, customers and partners. As I move on to my next chapter - a huge thank you to everyone that’s been a part of it - it will be a period of my life I always cherish. I’m delighted to be taking on one of the most critical organisations across BT/EE, as MD of ESN, with an ambition to transform communications for those who serve on the front line every day - a game changing initiative for the country. Faisal R Mahomed reacted on thisFuture Leaders UK invited to 10 Downing Street! It was an honour for our team to be invited to meet the Prime Minister as part of the Eid celebrations at 10 Downing Street. Attended by our Director of Operations, Halima S., and Youth Ambassador Laiba W., it was an opportunity to celebrate the contributions Future Leaders UK is making to help build stronger, more cohesive communities and create genuine pathways for young people who are too often furthest from opportunity. Laiba was selected to have a one to one conversation with the Prime Minister about how our programme had empowered her to develop her skills, back herself, and lead positive change in her community. With further speeches by our long time supporter the Mayor of London, and our Patron, Wes Streeting, it really felt like the whole Future Leaders UK family had come together! We continue to be a proud partner of the UK Government in helping ensure all young people have access to the opportunities they deserve, regardless of where they come from. That means breaking down the barriers that hold young people back, and empowering them to give back to the communities that shaped them. Moments like this remind us why we do what we do. When a young woman from East London stands in the most famous house in the country and tells the Prime Minister how she is changing her community, that is not just a proud moment, that is proof that when you believe in young people and give them the platform to shine, there is absolutely no limit to what they can achieve. #FutureLeadersUK #EidAtDowningStreet #SocialMobility #YouthEmpowerment #10DowningStreet #CommunityCohesion

Faisal R Mahomed liked thisFaisal R Mahomed liked thisThe final speaking slot on the final day at any industry conference around the world is invariably challenged to attract an audience & is appropriately named the "graveyard slot". This was obviously not the case yesterday afternoon at British APCO BAPCO Annual Event in #Coventry where it was most definitely standing-room only for the traditional centrepiece of the show: the highly anticipated UK Home Office Emergency Services Network (ESN) update. This multiple presenter, 80+ minute, information-packed session was so rich in content & is so important for the UK & international public safety & critical communications community that I have decided to divide the material into 2 separate posts: this one will introduce the protagonists & set the scene. The second, later today, will go into detail about the timeline, Q&A & feedback/thoughts. Leading the ESN efforts for just over 4 years now is Programme Director, John Black, but John always likes to focus on the team effort required with key industry partners, BT Group EE led by Faisal R Mahomed & IBM, represented on stage by Steve Kelly & an extended list of partners delivering the different, interacting components of this challenging, complex Programme as it moves through the gears from Network Ready to Service Ready & the final holy grail of Full Transition. John, Faisal & Steve were joined on stage by their colleagues, Nigel Smith & James Hattam to go through some of the key aspects of ESN looking back at the past year's activities & milestones & looking forward to the next 12 months & beyond. Samsung Electronics Europe Director, #MCX, Barry Walsh was also on hand to go through some demos/use cases of the all-important mission-critical services client. The session was expertly moderated by Becca Jones (who knows the Programme well!) & Kevin Partridge was on hand in the front row to keep everything moving smoothly. You'll have to wait a little longer for more detail & feedback about the content from the session & the renewed timeline, but - just like ESN itself - hopefully it will be worth the wait! I've included a number of pictures of years past below & I'll add further text (& names & references) later today when I've got a stable Internet connection. (2 earlier versions have already "snapped" & disappeared into the ether!). I'd just quickly like to thank Duncan Swan, Chris Lucas, John Anthony MBE & the whole British APCO team for the kind invite to the VIP Reception later today & Annual Dinner tomorrow. I'm also looking forward - as always - to the now legendary annual UK Home Office Emergency Services Network (ESN) update on Thursday from John Black, Steve Kelly & Faisal R Mahomed. Safe travels everyone & I'll see many, many of you later in sunny Coventry! Peter Clemons Quixoticity-EU P.S. Now that I've got a more stable connection, I'd like to comment on a selection of some unused photos from previous BAPCOs: Two old industry friends, Ken Rehbehn & Matthew Johnson; an excellent #NTN overview from Andy Sutton MBE; Igor Vinogradoff dressed up as a French gendarme; wise words from Ian Thompson bursary awardee, Dr Jonathan Sinclair. Photos from 2 BAPCO dinners with Renaud Mellies appearing in both! & the TCCA-Critical Communications session led by Tero Pesonen & Mladen Vratonjic with Janis Lövgren speaking & Nina Myren, Christophe Gregoire in the panel. And finally, proof that the sun really does shine in Coventry! Let's make lots of new memories again this year!

The delivery of 23 AW149s and the further investment in the UK’s autonomous rotary wing capability, means Yeovil will continue to play an important role in our nation’s security and future prosperity. The site is not only key to our national resilience but a vital part of the economy of the South West and incubator of exciting and rewarding careers. Today therefore is a day to celebrate and I want to thank everyone who has worked so hard over the past few years to ensure that the AW149 was rightly chosen as the UK’s medium lift helicopter capability. #AW149 #NMH #Proteus #Yeovil #HomeOfBritishHelicopters

Most organisations obsess over their visible pipelines: succession charts, development plans, headcount forecasts. They’re neat, logical, and reassuring. After two decades working in the telecoms industry, I’ve noticed there’s always a second stream running underneath, the shadow pipeline. It’s the informal flow of trust, mentorship, and backchannel collaboration that doesn’t show up on slides but often determines who actually delivers when pressure rises. The colleague who connects teams across silos. The mentor who guides future leaders long before titles shift. The network that moves knowledge faster than process maps. Think of it as the organisation’s circulatory system, invisible, yet vital. Contrary to belief, the shadow pipeline isn’t a threat. It’s a strength, provided leaders recognise it and align it with formal planning. What’s flowing through your shadow pipeline right now, and are you nurturing it, or ignoring it? #SuccessionPlanning #LeadershipDevelopment #ExecutiveInsight #OrganisationalCulture #QuantumCoaching

The numbers keep moving on but the most critical number is not talked about so much. This is the number of people who can get 'decent' broadband and above, which amounts to the UK number of 99.9% right now. I focus on the 'decent' number because it is all those who can get MORE than 10Mbps down and 1Mbps up - or as we called it a decade ago - Full Broadband. It does dip in Wales compared to the UK as a whole of course, but that still provides 99.6% with 'decent' broadband. At the rates described, you can receive a reliable stream of HD (720p or above) video, sufficient for a single home to have both broadband usage AND streaming usage just about at the same time, at rates that a decade ago would have been called full broadband. Why is this number important? Because you need to compare it to the 98.5% DTT coverage at SD quality that the UK DTT network provides. It is now better than that coverage, and if we were to compare equivalents though we would need to compare coverage of the HD services which actually is only 90% of the UK. We are now beyond the point that Streaming is better than broadcast in the UK today. Of course, the percentage of coverage may vary a little as these are different populations, so just because you have HD coverage on DTT does not mean you have HD coverage for broadband. Right now if you are having issues with your broadband, we are now approaching the point where you should be thinking about getting it looked at seriously or maybe, as the gamer peeps say, think about buying a lottery ticket to be that lucky not to have decent broadband.

VodafoneThree Ofcom has told Keir Starmer and Rache Reeves it is pleased with the results of the VodafoneThree merger. In an open letter to Starmer and Reeves, chief executive Dame Melanie Dawes hailed early consumer benefits and the investment resulting Three merger. Dawes said consumers are already seeing benefits. Network integration has delivered faster 4G speeds for around seven million people across the UK, even at this early stage. Coverage has also improved sharply. Dawes said the merger has removed 16,500 square kilometres of mobile “not-spots”, boosting connectivity in areas that previously suffered from weak or non-existent signal. #business#financial#SME

A first for the UK, and for Europe! Today Virgin Media O2 switched on direct-to-device satellite mobile data, making the UK the first country in Europe to go live with this technology. It’s a huge step forward for connectivity and a proud moment for everyone who’s worked to bring it to life. For our customers, it means peace of mind in some of the most rural and remote parts of the country, many of which have long been known as not-spots. We’ve extended coverage across an area the size of two-thirds of Wales, keeping people connected when it matters most. So proud of our teams, partners, and the ambition behind this. And even more excited for what it signals about the UK’s digital future!

Bringing strong connectivity to rural places matters to BT Group, and to our customers. And today marks a real step forward for Penmachno, a small Welsh village tucked into the Machno Valley, now fully connected for the first time. It means local businesses can serve customers more easily, visitors can stay connected in the scenic hills and families can reach the services they rely on without having to travel elsewhere. This is the difference reliable mobile coverage makes. It supports daily life, gives local economies room to grow and strengthens the services people depend on. Penmachno shows what happens when we work with communities to bring lasting change. There is more to do across Wales. And this is part of a broader initiative to support the Welsh economy through digital infrastructure, and awareness of #cybersecurity and #AI. BT Business is proud of what we do to support growth and digital transformation in Wales and we look forward to continuing for many years to come. #digital #wales #smallbusiness

Gigabit IQ • 3K followers
🚀 Why settle for Wi-Fi that only half works when you can have Wi-Fi that’s fully optimised? At Gigabit IQ, our Wi-Fi Optimisation Service has been a hit for years. Each visit helps us: • ✅ Understand real-world customer use cases and challenges • ✅ Educate customers on how to get the most from their home network • ✅ Build confidence for customers to self-serve via the Gigabit IQ App The result? Lower OPEX for us, higher NPS for our customers, and a service experience traditional ISPs can’t match. We’ve now taken things a step further with remote virtual visits—and in the coming months we’ll be launching even more innovative services. Watch this space… 👀 So why don’t other ISPs do this? It’s simple: they don’t have the IQ. They’ve chosen the wrong hardware, the wrong software, and they lack the expertise to deliver a truly managed Wi-Fi service. 💡 That’s what makes Gigabit IQ different: we don’t just deliver broadband speeds—we make sure your Wi-Fi works in every corner of your home. 👉 Find out more: https://lnkd.in/ebp9PaEY #WiFi #Broadband #CustomerExperience #ManagedWiFi #Connectivity #GigabitIQ

The real-life manifestation of this problem are the all too common posts in the LinkedIn feeds of fibre operators, from disappointed customers asking why their promised connection date has been missed... and missed... and missed again. It should surprise no-one that concerns around service interruption are the main barrier in the UK to broadband switching.

Fair and balanced summary from telcotitans in relation to the on-going need for Ofcom to review PIA pricing models in the latest Telecoms Access Review. Fibrus is a large user of the Openreach PIA products in NI and GB and they work very well operationally for us. However, the current outdated per metre pricing model needs reviewed for rural builds to take into account distance between premises at 20 times greater than urban prems. Ofcom complete a telecoms access review every 5 years so time is of the essence to act now to properly review and update. #fibrus

As digital infrastructure becomes ever more essential for life, connectivity must continue work for both our people and the planet we all live on. It’s Net Zero Week here in the UK and we’ve been reflecting on our journey towards a more sustainable future. We're making positive progress towards our goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2040. On our journey we’ve cut Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions by 56% against our 2020 baseline, begun the drive to make our fleet fully electric, and prevented more than four million devices from going to landfill through O2 Recycle. There's still more we need to do and we remain committed to reducing our impact on the planet, by cutting carbon from our products and operations, and by continuing to work with our partners to help reduce our supply chain emissions, too. A proud moment for Cellnex UK! Delivering our first VodafoneThree consolidated mast ahead of schedule is more than a technical milestone, it is a step toward a more connected, inclusive, and sustainable future. Reliable connectivity isn’t just about speed; it underpins flexible working, digital inclusion, and wellbeing. As demand for high-speed networks grows, shared infrastructure models like this help reduce environmental impact while enabling people and businesses to thrive, wherever they are. For those of us focused on Workplace, Wellbeing, and EDI, this matters because: Hybrid work depends on strong, resilient networks. Digital equity ensures everyone can access opportunities. The analogue switch-off isn’t optional. The UK’s analogue landline network is being withdrawn as part of a national transition to digital services. This change is driven by several key factors that organisations need to understand before making decisions: 1️⃣ Ageing infrastructure that is increasingly difficult to maintain 2️⃣ Reduced manufacturer and supplier support for analogue systems 3️⃣ Improved reliability offered by modern digital networks 4️⃣ The need to support future services beyond voice alone This is not a supplier-led decision - it is a nationwide programme. Understanding what relies on analogue lines is essential before change, helping reduce risk and avoid disruption. 🦆 Start the conversation before the switch-off starts. #digitaltransition #analogueoff #telecomchange #infrastructuremodernisation #telecomclarity

Yesterday we held Women in Telecoms Group 3rd Anniversary!! It has been a busy 3 years for the group and we are immensely proud of what we have achieved as a collective but also what we have each achieved as individuals. Nicola Kemp did a fab job showcasing this in the video uploaded, so a big shout out to you! Part of our celebration we were joined by Irina Iovita, who presented to the group the findings from 2025 Lovelace Report; Unlocking £2-3.5 Billion The Value of keeping Women in Tech. I would like to say, that I wouldn't be shocked by their findings but I was, that figure is HUGE!! Change has to happen for the following reasons from the report they ran, these are the figures: 📈 7% of women leave the industry compared the +11.5% of men 📈 80% of women have recently switched roles or are interesterd in exiting their tech role 📈 60% earn less then £100k compared to the male average of £150k 📈 25% see limited direction and opportunity in their career pathway 📈 Surprisingly, as this has been the narrative in the past, only 3% cited caring commitments the reason for leaving. The takeaway from this, more needs to be done to attract, retain and progress women in the tech industry. Especially given it is estimated that 98-120,000 more tech professionals are needed to meet the UK's AI and Digital demands. We then had Ruth Sloss to give our group a interactive coaching session on; Seeing the Value in Ourselves. We may not be able to impact the above immediately within the industry but we can impact it for ourselves. I found this session fun but extremely useful for future tips, that I will definitely use. ☀️ We can develop our EQ ☀️ Low self confidence should not hold back your career ☀️ Remember your posture ☀️ Breathe ☀️ Be conscious of the words you use, "Just" and "Sorry" ☀️ What if Imposter was actually a critical friend? ☀️ Listen , Evidence and Learning It really was a fantastic afternoon, spent with the best women! Safer SIMs an important strategic area for BT/EE 🚸 We expect EE's new Safer SIMs for U18s to prove very popular (with parents at least). So too their in-store appointments for help in setting up any phone (old or new) for appropriate child protections (available from mid August). 👨👩👧 Family plans are incredibly important to BT Group/EE in addressing the lower end of the market, together with their convergence plans. The company seems to be shying away from reintroducing a sub-brand at the value end of the market - a different approach to their reinvigoration of the Plusnet brand on broadband 📈 They probably feel that what they're doing is working just fine for now. They just had a really strong quarter on mobile contract net adds, counter to the network operator trends over the past few quarters, and well ahead of the MNO competition. We suspect that these new U18 plans will be a bolster in the coming quarters, and is a smart move in a strategically important space for them Thanks to Claire Gillies and Jonny Bunt for an engaging session on an issue that's arguably top of most parents' agendas.
