🛰️ Three models, one mission: Important advancements are shaping the future of the Galileo Second Generation Satellites The #Galileo Second Generation program, meant to improve the current Galileo system thanks to its advanced technologies, is moving forward at pace. Including to date a total of 12 satellites, of which six developed by Thales Alenia Space for the European Space Agency, the upgraded Galileo Second Generation satellites will provide even more robust and reliable PNT services. We are successfully advancing through key stages with three key models - Engineering Model (EM), Proto-Flight Model (PFM), and Flight Model 2 (FM2) - each making significant strides in their respective development and integration phases. The Engineering Model remains fully engaged in system level testing, providing critical validation and essential support to the program. Meanwhile, the Proto-Flight Model is progressing steadily in its Assembly, Integration and Testing (AIT) campaign, with the completion of Propulsion Subsystem assembly and the integration of its navigation payload. The Flight Model 2 has also achieved a major milestone: its entry into our clean rooms marks the official beginning of the production activities for the first Flight Set of the new constellation. Alongside with these accomplishments, a particularly meaningful achievement is the successful completion of the Launch Site Survey at the Guiana Space Centre in Kourou, French Guiana - the designated launch site for Galileo. This event coordinated the launch operations and defined the security protocols for the simultaneous processing of the first two satellites of Ariane 62, paving the way for the upcoming launch campaigns. These results are the outcome of outstanding teamwork, dedication, and close collaboration with European Space Agency - ESA and EUSPA - EU Agency for the Space Programme teams. It marks a shared success that reflects the commitment and passion, key drivers of the program success. Our journey continues, and we look forward to reaching the next ambitious milestones together. 🛰️ Good morning Celeste, we hear you loud and clear! ESA’s second Celeste satellite broadcasts its first navigation signal from low Earth orbit In the night of 17 April, Celeste IOD-2 sent its first dual-frequency navigation message in the L- and S-band. The signal was received at ESA-ESTEC and at Thales Alenia Space facilities in Toulouse and Rome in coordination with the satellite's control centre at German Orbital Systems GmbH in Berlin. This milestone follows last week’s first navigation broadcast from Celeste IOD‑1. With both satellites operational, the mission is gearing up to bring into use the required frequency filings in L- and S-bands for future operational European LEO-PNT missions. Congratulations to the teams around Europe that connected in the early hours to make this happen! 📽️ IOD-2 separation from Rocket Lab’s Electron rocket (Credit: Rocket Lab) 🔴 L-band signal 🔵 S-band signal Learn more about the role of Celeste's signals 👉 https://lnkd.in/eeBEwgcH

🚀 3 European environmental monitoring satellites unveiled today! 🚀 Three jewels of space technology were spotlighted during a press tour at our Cannes facility, in the presence of representatives from the European Space Agency - ESA, European Commission, EUMETSAT, Leonardo, OHB SE, METEO FRANCE, Mercator Ocean International, and Thales Alenia Space. These three Earth observation satellites share much in common: 🌍 All are dedicated to environmental monitoring 🚀 All will be launched in 2026 🛰️ All built under our prime contractorship Let’s start with MTG-I2, the second Meteosat Third Generation imaging satellite. Part of a fleet of six satellites (4 imagers and 2 sounders), the #MTG program aims to revolutionize modern meteorology with enhanced forecast accuracy. While MTG-I1 delivers images of the entire globe every 10 minutes, MTG-I2 will provide refreshed images over Europe every 2.5 minutes. Once the fleet reaches three satellites in orbit (MTG-I1, MTG-S1, and MTG-I2), Europe will benefit from the world’s most advanced weather forecasting services. Launch by Arianespace is scheduled this summer from French Guiana! Next, Sentinel-3C and #FLEX will be launched together aboard a Vega-C launcher in September! #Sentinel3C focuses on operational oceanography (including iceberg detection) and land monitoring. It carries sophisticated instruments that measure ocean temperature, wave height, sea color, and land cover — providing critical data to better understand climate, monitor oceans, and manage natural resources. Another very interesting mission is FLEX (FLuorescence EXplorer) satellite. It will provide precision over vast territories to gain new insights into plant health and productivity on a global scale. The FLEX mission will provide essential data on the impact of various environmental stresses on vegetation such as heat waves, water stress, and winds. Fair winds to our three satellites! Huge thanks to all our dedicated experts for their passion and commitment to these stunning programs — all of which contribute to a deeper understanding of climate change and the preservation of our unique planet. #EarthObservation #EnvironmentalMonitoring ESA Earth Observation Thales Leonardo Simonetta Cheli Herve DERREY Giampiero Di Paolo Laura Berneri Tarik Lahlou Catherine DES ARCIS Bertrand Denis YVAN BAILLION Dirk Bernaerts Mauro Facchini Paul Counet Olivier Brize Ian Bennett Fabio Brandani Sylvain Le Moal Nic Mardle Estelle Obligis Fabio Brandani Antonio Reppucci Ralf Bock Marco Celesti Huiban Thierry Fabio Brandani Michael Conquet Didier Geray Philippe Pelouas

Delivering 5 tons of supplies to the crew onboard the International Space Station! We recently celebrated the safe return of the Artemis II crew following their mission to the Moon. Today, we welcome a new launch: that of NG Cygnus 24, which is set to resupply the International Space Station with everything needed to ensure humanity’s continued presence in low Earth orbit. Thanks to its enhanced capabilities, the pressurized cargo module, developed by Thales Alenia Space on behalf of Northrop Grumman, is now capable of carrying up to 5 tons of essential deliveries to the lives and operations of the astronauts aboard our home in space. #spaceforlife.
