The Information for All Programme (IFAP), created in 2001, is a unique UNESCO intergovernmental programme that supports Member States in fostering equitable societies through promoting universal access to information and knowledge for sustainable development.

In the context of the challenges of fast-growing digital technologies and in order to tackle the complex issues of global digital divides, IFAP reaffirms its critical mission to harness information as a public good, as set out in IFAP Strategic Plan 2023-2029, and to contribute to the implementation of the Global Digital Compact (GDC) and the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS).

The 12th session of the Intergovernmental Council for the Information for All Programme adopted the IFAP Strategic Plan (2023-2029) available here.

Cordel Green Discusses Media Resilience after Hurricane Melissa

While providing food, water, and shelter is the immediate priority following a natural disaster, Mr. Cordel Green, Chair of IFAP's Information Accessibility Working Group, highlights why access to information is an equally critical need. Following the destructive impact of Hurricane Melissa on media institutions in western Jamaica, UNESCO partnered with the Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica, of which Mr. Green is also the Executive Director, to survey the damage and strengthen local communication. UNESCO also provided emergency equipment to radio broadcasters in the affected areas to support them in delivering critical information to persons in these areas.
