Positively Connecting Communities

About us

Orange Sky has a simple formula; we provide a platform for every day people to connect through a regular laundry and shower service. The focus is on creating a safe, positive and supportive environment for people who are too often ignored or who feel disconnected from the community. Our volunteers are not social workers or experts on homelessness - they are empathetic listeners and great conversationalists. Orange Sky acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the Traditional Custodians of the lands across Australia. We pay our respects to Ancestors and their descendants, who hold a continued cultural and spiritual connection to the land, seas, and community. We would like to recognise and uphold the First Nations knowledge and contributions of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Orange Sky is committed to working together to create a positive future.

  • 5,259 referrals in just one year... Last year alone, Orange Sky volunteers and team members made thousands of referrals to friends and residents accessing our services right across the country. This was all made possible thanks to AskIzzy, a free tool that connects people with support services in their local area. We're backing the continuation of this important resource. You can help by adding your signature and helping the Infoxchange team to reach their target of 10,000 signatures. Together, we can ensure people doing it tough can continue to find the support they need. Add your signature today: https://helpaskizzy.org.au

  • It takes a community! We recently wrapped up a fantastic two-week rollout in Numbulwar, NT, working hand-in-hand with Numburindi Corporation to get our new laundry van up and running. Located 781km east of Darwin, Numbulwar is one of the most remote service locations that Orange Sky is operating in. The new team hit the ground running - driving the van themselves and completing 13 loads of washing on their very first official shift! A massive thank you to the Numbulwar community, the Numburindi Corporation Board Directors, the Numburindi Homelands team and of course, the new Numburindi Laundry Team for driving this project forward! We're so grateful for your ideas, opinions and guidance on how the laundry facility should operate around community. We can’t wait to see the impact and great yarns this van brings 🧡

  • We've got something we'd like to talk about... Homelessness is widely misunderstood, and is often viewed as someone sleeping rough on a city street. And while that’s one form of homelessness, it’s actually the smallest part of the picture (accounting for only 7%). Swipe to learn more about the reality of homelessness 👉🏻 Today is World Homelessness Day, marking 12 years of Orange Sky serving our community. And what we've learnt over that time? No single service can solve homelessness alone. That’s why we are proud to launch our partnership with the Australian Alliance to End Homelessness (AAEH). Alongside a growing network of communities, we’re uniting around one shared goal: to end homelessness in Australia. At Orange Sky, we’ll continue to build trust through consistent human connection and access to essential services. For many friends experiencing homelessness or hardship, a visit to an Orange Sky shift is a soft entry point into the various services they might need access to. Ends with "But..." and an arrow pointing right. Background is orange.
    • Nearly 4 million more are one setback away from losing their home. An arrow pointing right with the word "How?" at the bottom.
    • Text on orange background reads: "We know that the people who come to our shifts are navigating a much wider range of experiences than homelessness alone." Below is handwritten text stating: "Hardship can look like..." with an arrow pointing right.
    • An infographic on an orange background with icons and text: A house represents "A housing crisis." A person sitting signifies "Feeling isolated and lonely." A washing machine symbolises "No access to a washing machine or warm shower." A cloud with lightning and an umbrella illustrate "Experiencing a disaster event with a long recovery ahead." A person far from a house represents "Living in a remote community where access to services that most people take for granted is limited.
  • We're proud to be announcing a new a new national partnership this World Homelessness Day... Orange Sky and the Australian Alliance to End Homelessness (AAEH) are backing a shared goal - alongside a growing network of communities - that together, we can end homelessness in Australia. Ending homelessness doesn't mean no one will ever lose their home or experience homelessness again. It means that when it happens, it's rare, brief and once-off. In a perfect world, Orange Sky wouldn’t need to exist - or at least our focus would look very different. But there are thousands of people we support each week, alongside service partners and communities across the country, who are navigating different hardship journeys. That's why this partnership with AAEH matters. It's a key step towards a future without homelessness. As always, we will continue to meet people where they are, on their terms, with consistency, warmth and genuine connection. And never without our washing machines, dryers and a set of chairs. Last week, the Acis team wore the same shirt for three days straight as part of #TheSudsyChallenge, raising awareness and funds for Orange Sky Australia.   Thanks to everyone who got behind us, we're pretty excited to share that we raised an incredible $9,749! 🎉   That's 406 loads of laundry provided for people doing it tough. 🧺   A huge thank you to everyone who supported the challenge, whether through a donation, sharing our fundraising efforts, or simply asking about the orange shirts and helping start the conversation.   Seeing so many people rally behind the cause has been a powerful reminder of the impact a community can have when it comes together to support one another. 🙌   To learn more about Orange Sky and the incredible work they do in communities across Australia, visit their website here: https://orangesky.org.au/   #SudsyChallenge #OrangeSky #Acis #OrangeSkyAustralia
