A huge thank you to Lisa Priest (Bannister) who has been a board member and the Treasurer of SECNA for the past 2.5 years. Lisa stepped down from this role last week to focus on work, family and her studies, and so that someone else can take her place at our upcoming AGM. She has been instrumental in developing new policies and processes to ensure our governance continues to improve over time. She has also been a joy to work with and will be deeply missed by our Board and CEO.

The blokes at Can Assist in Parkes pick up good quality, unwanted furniture, bring it to this big shed, repair it where needed and sell it back to the community. They’re all volunteers and all funds go into financial assistance for people in Parkes getting cancer treatment - mileage, accommodation and medicine. They said they turn over furniture pretty quickly. What a great way to help people and to keep good furniture in use for longer. A big thank you to Natalie Bramble for taking me around Dubbo this morning to visit social enterprises, EnergyCo and the team at Your Not-for-Profit Guide. There’s a lot happening in this city, and a lot of it will be by the community, for the community, if Nat has anything to do with it. It has been three years since my last visit to LeaderLife in Dubbo. It was so good to see them and their new farm are flourishing. What a beautiful space! They’re using syntropic agroforestry (look that one up if you haven’t heard of it) to grow a huge array of flowers, fruit, veg, herbs and nuts. With more than 140 kids and young people involved, it is a safe space for them to try new things, learn new skills and create employment pathways for themselves (like their farm gate sales, flower bouquets, dried yacon chips, honey and more). Words can’t describe the feeling of this place. You just have to visit. Social Enterprise Council of NSW & ACT (SECNA) #SocialEnterprise #SocialEnterpriseRoadtrip
