How many jelly beans are in the jar? Black Americans trying to register to vote in the Jim Crow South were asked questions like that one, or how many bubbles were on a bar of soap. There was no right answer. That was the point. This past Saturday in Marin City, local youth and community leaders walked neighbors through that history. Then they helped them register. Plenty of residents came straight over from Saturday’s breast cancer walk. The event is part of a countywide voter registration campaign that MCF Community Advocate Lenice S. has been working on for the past several months. We’re grateful to the partners who made Saturday happen: RIZE MARIN (led by Felecia Gaston), Our Sisters Keeper (Marin City), Marin City Youth Leadership, Wise Choices for Girls, Nu Mind Nu Woman, Wise Choices for Girls, and Rev. Reverend Dr. Rondall Leggett and the First Missionary Baptist Church. Rep. Jared Huffman, Assemblymember Damon Connolly and Supervisors Stephanie Moulton-Peters & Eric Lucan joined residents at the event, along with Sarah Elizabeth Canson, chair of the Marin City Community Services District board and a Marin Housing Authority commissioner. The deadline to register for the Nov. 3 election is Monday, Oct. 19! Register online at registertovote.ca.gov. If you miss the deadline, you can still register and vote in person through Election Day. #MarinCity #VoterRegistration #MarinCounty

Celebrating our people and the incredible initiatives they bring to the world is the absolute best part of what we do. 🙌 We couldn’t be prouder of Aaron S. Davis, CFRE ! His dedication inspires all of us, and we are 100% behind him every single step of the way. Take a look at Aarons post below to learn more and how you can get involved.
I'm thrilled to be presenting at the Technology Association of Grantmakers' #TAG2026 conference in Chicago this November! My session is titled "Designing Learning Systems Rooted in Community Experience." We'll explore how foundations can build a reciprocal relationship with the information community shares, putting it back to work for the people it came from. I'll share lessons from Marin Community Foundation's Community Knowledge framework, along with questions you can take back to your own organization. If you'll be at TAG2026, I hope you'll join the conversation. Learn more at: https://lnkd.in/gwKQm-9W

Ebony Bloom's dedication to amplifying community voices and driving meaningful, systemic change embodies everything we strive for at MCF. This well-deserved recognition highlights her exceptional leadership, passion, and tireless efforts to champion impactful advocacy work. Please join us in congratulating Ebony on this remarkable milestone!
Ebony Bloom’s story is one of extraordinary growth and of remembering where you came from as you rise. Over nearly 20 years with Marin Community Foundation, Ebony has grown from receptionist to Senior Philanthropic Advisor, helping steward hundreds of charitable funds and advocating for resources to reach communities and organizations too often overlooked by traditional philanthropy. Her impact extends beyond her title. She mentors, advocates, creates space for people to tell their stories and continually uses her position to ask an important question: Who is not being seen or supported yet? Her own definition of philanthropy captures that beautifully: no community left behind. Ebony’s work embodies what it means to bridge gaps together with purpose by making sure more voices, communities and possibilities are included. We are delighted to recognize Ebony Bloom with our 2026 Advocacy Award. Thank you to Odette Nemes and Marin Community Foundation for nominating Ebony for this recognition. Join us November 6 as we celebrate Ebony and the people using their voices and influence to build stronger communities. Purchase tickets: https://lnkd.in/ggxuSf38

On 8/26, rock and ice gave way high on Langtang Lirung mountain, on the Nepal–Tibet border. The debris dammed a river, then burst. Downstream, the Trishuli rose 30 feet in 30 minutes. Timure and Syabrubesi were largely destroyed — together about 50,000 people, roughly the size of Novato. At least 389 are confirmed dead. More than 1,400 are missing. This was not simply an act of nature. As the burning of fossil fuels warms the Himalayas, the permafrost that has bound these slopes for millennia is thawing. Glaciers across the Hindu Kush Himalaya lost ice 65% faster between 2011 and 2020 than in the decade before. Today's communities rely on resilience to plan for a changing climate. Flexible, unrestricted cash helps most right now. On Monday, we celebrated something special in Marin City: the graduation — and the start — of the first Marin City Entrepreneur Collective. 🎓 Over six months and twelve workshops, a cohort of Marin City residents and local business owners — caterers, mental health service providers, tutors and mentors, hair stylists, and photographers — built the foundations to grow on their own terms: budgeting and bookkeeping, choosing the right business structure, brand and marketing strategy, funding pathways from grants to micro-lending, legal and risk management, and a 30-second pitch each of them can now deliver with confidence. Monday night, they (pictured below) delivered those pitches to a room full of neighbors, donors, family, and community leaders! This is what Marin 24x7 was built for. Our Community Advocates — led in Marin City by Lenice S., with support from MCF's Caroline Jensen and Jessica Carrizosa and from Dr. Omowale Satterwhite of Leadership Incorporated — helped catalyze this collective from an idea into a working program. MCF organized and funded it from the first session through graduation night, including stipends and, soon, seed support to help these businesses take their next step. None of it happens without partners. Thank you to @Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center, Marin Small Business Development Center, County of Marin — Office of Equity & RIZE MARIN for lending expertise, and to every graduate who showed up every other Monday for six months to invest in themselves and each other. What if the most powerful leaders in Marin had everything they needed to tell their story, fund their vision, and build something lasting? We believe that is not a hypothetical. It can be done. When local visionaries have the right tools, resources, and strategic support, our entire community thrives. We are moving past the "what-ifs" and actively building that reality today. Marin Community Foundation is proud to introduce the Marin Accelerator Program. https://lnkd.in/gaDC8tux

Marin County is working on unified, countywide strategy to defend our 110 miles of vulnerable shoreline. Led by the newly established Marin County Climate Office, this regional effort coordinates cities, local districts, and community partners to scale up infrastructure and nature-based defenses. This initiative unites cities, local utility districts, and community organizations to develop a coordinated, multi-jurisdictional resilience framework. Our Senior Program Director, Patti D'Angelo Juachon, has shared valuable insights and perspectives. We appreciate the collaboration with our partners, COASTAL QUEST, and the Marin Independent Journal, for their coverage of this significant initiative. Learn More https://lnkd.in/g3iq2qZv
