The 2026 United Nations Global Compact Leaders Summit brought together business leaders, investors and policymakers to examine how companies can strengthen resilience and advance sustainability in a changing global landscape. Delivering on sustainability commitments requires more than ambition. It means embedding sustainability into business strategy, building resilient value chains and mobilizing capital to drive progress at scale. In my latest article, I reflect on the key takeaways of #LeadersSummit2026 and the priorities that will help translate the strategy of the Global Compact into measurable business action. #GlobalCompact #LeadersSummit #ResponsibleBusiness #ForwardFaster

UN Global Compact CEO and Executive Director Sanda Ojiambo is in Amsterdam this week for Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) in Person 2026, joining responsible investment leaders to advance sustainable finance. Established in partnership with the UN Global Compact and the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), PRI works to integrate environmental, social and governance factors into investment decisions. Embedding the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact into business practices is essential to advancing human rights, decent work, environmental responsibility and ethical business conduct. Investors have an important role in encouraging companies to turn these commitments into action. The investment community gathers this week to turn commitments into meaningful action, strengthen corporate accountability and advance progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals. #GlobalCompact #ResponsibleInvestment #ResponsibleBusiness #SustainableDevelopment

Air quality funding is not reaching the world’s hardest-hit countries. 🌍 New research reveals that five of the world's most polluted countries received less than $2 per person to tackle air pollution in 2024, despite it being one of the greatest public health challenges globally. The State of Global Air Quality Funding 2026 is out now. It reveals where international development funding is flowing, what it supports, and where the biggest gaps remain. 💰 Explore the brand-new report ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eP7KSrwx

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Sanda Ojiambo (CEO & Executive Director of the United Nations Global Compact) and Griet Cattaert (Regional Head Europe) to Amsterdam. Hosted by our Executive Director Merei Wagenaar and our Senior Participant Engagement Manager Karin Weigelt, PhD, the programme kicked off with a lunch and an exchange with our team, followed by a behind-the-scenes visit to Fairphone's headquarters alongside several of our board members. During the company visit, CEO Raymond van Eck shared Fairphone's journey from launching a modular smartphone to expanding into modular headphones and Fairbuds, including a preview of the latest model launching today. He offered insights into how Fairphone is embedding circularity, responsible sourcing and supply chain transparency into its business model. As he put it: "𝘍𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮, 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘨𝘺." His presentation was followed by an open exchange on some of the challenges facing the sector today, from responsible mineral sourcing and labour rights to decent work and living wages across global supply chains. We also discussed what it would take for approaches like these to become more widely adopted and the role that collaboration and initiatives such as the United Nations Global Compact and the UN Global Compact Network Netherlands can play in accelerating progress. A big thank you to Raymond van Eck and the Fairphone team including Brooke Stearns Lawson, Chandler Elizabeth Hatton, Rutger Sneep, and Dunja Ilic for the warm welcome. We were delighted to be joined by Sanda Ojiambo and Griet Cattaert, together with Merei Wagenaar, Karin Weigelt, PhD, Nadia Cicek, Marlou Leenders (she/her), and Marco Barsoum for an inspiring exchange on the future of responsible business. #UNGlobalCompact #Fairphone #UNGlobalCompactNL #SustainableBusiness #ResponsibleBusiness #SupplyChains #HumanRights #LivingWage #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #SDGs

Now more than ever, accelerating the energy transition is essential to strengthening business competitiveness, resilience and growth. In my reflections from the UN Private Sector Forum Dialogue during the 81st UN General Assembly High-level Week, I outline five business imperatives to accelerate clean-energy deployment, unlock investment and strengthen energy security and access. As we move toward COP31, we must turn these priorities into action and mobilize private-sector investment. Read my reflections below: #GlobalCompact #ResponsibleBusiness #EnergyTransition #ForwardFaster
