Latin America and the Caribbean has an enormous infrastructure investment pipeline ahead. The quality of procurement processes largely determines project outcomes over their entire lifecycle. Day 1 opening of the ICC-FIDIC Conference in Bogotá FIDIC President-Elect Adam Białachowski and Chief Legal and Contracts Officer Daduna Kokhreidze, FCIArb joined the opening session this morning. They spoke alongside Claudia Salomon, President of the ICC International Court of Arbitration and María Mónica Conde Barragán, Vice President of International Relations & Cooperation of the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce. Daduna’s institutional update covered: 🔹 FIDIC contracts in use in around 170 countries and 32+ languages 🔹 New publications on quality, Qualifications-Based Selection and carbon management 🔹 2,933 professionals trained through 109 courses in 2025 Adam set out FIDIC’s five strategic priorities. He also showed how they support Colombia’s infrastructure ambitions, from the National Development Plan to Bogotá Metro Line 1. “Together, we can build a bright future for the infrastructure sector and for people.” - Adam Białachowski Daduna then joined the first panel, “The role of the Engineer in FIDIC contracts: practice and perspectives”. Her message was clear: a neutral, properly empowered Engineer protects the project, and with it the interests of both Parties. FIDIC President-Elect Adam Białachowski and Chief Legal and Contracts Officer Daduna Kokhreidze, FCIArb visited the Cámara Colombiana de la Infraestructura (CCI), FIDIC's member association in Colombia.   They met newly-appointed CCI President Tatyana Orozco De La Cruz and members of the CCI leadership team. They were also joined by José Joaquín Ortiz García, Chairman of Joyco and a long-standing FIDIC ambassador in Colombia.   Thank you to the CCI team for their warm welcome and for hosting us. Ahead of the ICC-FIDIC Conference on International Construction Contracts and Dispute Resolution, FIDIC Academy held its workshop “FIDIC Contracts & Dispute Resolution: The Life of a Dispute from Engineer to Arbitration” on 13 October in Bogotá. Around 50 engineers, lawyers, arbitrators, contract managers, DAAB members and procurement specialists from more than 10 countries joined us. FIDIC Chief Legal and Contracts Officer Daduna Kokhreidze, FCIArb welcomed participants. She highlighted the role of well-balanced contracts and of strong partnerships and procurement across the project team in avoiding disputes and resolving them early. José Joaquín Ortiz García, Chairman of Joyco, also addressed participants on behalf of FIDIC Academy as our local host. Trainers Ignacio P. and Roberto Hernández-García, FCIArb, FIDIC Certified, used a single case study to follow one dispute from the Engineer’s determination through Dispute Boards and amicable settlement to arbitration. Participants weighed the costs, timing and risks of each path. We were especially pleased to welcome a strong delegation from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
