We marked Coldwater Solar’s first year of operation last month with the township and county leaders, landowners, and Michigan workers who made it possible. In its first year, the project contributed more than $1 million in property tax and community benefit payments, supporting schools and public safety in Coldwater and Ovid Townships. Over its lifetime, it’s projected to generate nearly $30 million in local revenue. Construction is now underway on the neighboring Coldwater Storage project, which is expected to roughly double annual payments to the community over the next decade.

Meeting America’s growing energy needs means drawing power from more sources, and wind and solar are crucial to a more diverse, resilient grid. We’re excited to see our industry kick off a bold new conversation with American consumers about clean energy. Learn more at BigPowerZeroDrama.com.

At Apex, the communities around our projects and our headquarters are part of the work, and so are the natural places that make them worth living in. For this year’s United Way Day of Caring, our team put that into practice close to home. Apex volunteers built a trail connecting a local elementary school to the Rivanna River, cleared nearby trails, cleaned up the riverbank, and refreshed the school’s outdoor spaces. Students now have a clear path from the classroom to the river and the trail network beyond it.

America’s clean power fleet keeps growing, and Apex is helping lead the way. In Q2, more than 160 utility-scale solar, wind, and storage projects came online, adding 17.1 GW of capacity, powering approximately 83 million households, and strengthening America’s grid reliability as energy demands rise. Apex’s Spring Creek Solar project in Macon County, Illinois, is officially financed with support from Helaba, KeyBank, and Barclays. It’s our sixth project financed under an Illinois Power Agency contract; together those facilities represent more than $3.5 billion invested in the state. Spring Creek is expected to begin commercial operations in 2027, adding new solar capacity as energy demand across the region continues to climb. Great projects attract great partners. We’ve finalized our second strategic portfolio selldown with EGCO, which now holds a 49% stake in Timbermill Wind in North Carolina and Coldwater Solar in Michigan. Over their lifetimes, the two facilities will contribute more than $60 million in tax revenue to their host communities. This transaction helps fuel our next wave of projects as demand for reliable, American-made power continues to rise. Read the full announcement: https://lnkd.in/exiT2peR

Protecting habitats is a crucial part of Apex's mission. For the past five years, we’ve supported Ducks Unlimited’s (DU) work to restore and protect wetlands and grasslands across North America. In May, DU closed its Conservation for a Continent campaign at $4.06 billion, the largest conservation fundraising effort ever undertaken for North America’s wetlands and waterfowl, powered by more than two million contributors, including Apex. Wetlands and grasslands filter water, buffer communities against flooding, and sustain hundreds of wildlife species. Conserving them is work that pays off for generations. Crews at Coles Wind recently ran a joint emergency response exercise with our contractors and the Charleston and Seven Hickory-Morgan fire departments, walking through response procedures for hazards specific to wind sites. Should responders ever need to come out, they’ll arrive knowing the access roads and the layout of the facility—not learning it on the way. The goal is that no one ever needs this training. If they do, the fire departments closest to Coles Wind will already know their way around it.
