AI was not a talking point in my curriculum. Sure, it existed—but no one thought it was particularly relevant for clinicians or scientists. Fast-forward a few years, and wow, how things have changed. I first started hearing about AI when I was working in the tech world as the founder of a mental health startup. Conversations were popping up about how this new technology could support clinical workflows and whether it would eventually replace health professionals. Personally, I was interested in how AI could be used for real-time crisis detection. It was 2020, and while our app was designed for health education, we couldn’t ignore the fact that some students might need clinical or emergency care. And that’s how I dove into the world of AI. 🤖 Our company partnered with graduate students from Carnegie Mellon University to build one of the first crisis detection systems, and later teamed up with the The Media and Innovation Lab at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine to test the program. ➡️ The results? We were able to identify at-risk students and notify school clinicians within 30 minutes, meaning they could get services in place for them almost immediately. It was a proud moment for our team. One of my biggest takeaways from this research is that as a healthcare professional, you don’t need to become an AI expert. But you do need to understand how AI is changing the way patients interact with health systems. This includes situations related to clinical support, but it also includes how patients access health information. Most degree programs don’t cover the practical skills health professionals need to use AI intentionally and responsibly. That’s why AI in Healthcare is one of the modules in the Katherine Grill Consulting Career Accelerator. This semester-long virtual program is designed for students and young professionals exploring the future of the healthcare workforce. During the program (which runs January - May 2027), we’ll also explore health technology, the creator economy, and entrepreneurship through live virtual sessions with experts across the health ecosystem. You can join the waitlist to be the first to receive early access when enrollment opens this fall: https://lnkd.in/gbnvi5Cg Whether you're choosing your college major, preparing for graduate school, or navigating your first professional role, I can’t wait to take this journey with you. ✨ PS - here's a picture with Saranne Rothberg, my collaborator on another research project where we studied AI in healthcare. She's doing some very cool work: https://lnkd.in/gpSgrNmz

When I was a student, the Creator Economy didn’t exist. Sure, we had social media. But few people thought being a creator was a legitimate career path—especially in healthcare. A lot has changed in a few short years. While living in Silicon Valley, I discovered the emerging field of digital health. I eventually built a mobile app full of educational content for teens. But I never thought of myself as a creator. Then a state health agency approached me with a simple question: “Can you help us make evidence-based videos for social media?” 💡 At the time, I thought creators were people selling products through brand partnerships. But suddenly, I had an opportunity to use my health expertise to share educational content at scale. ➡️ So I jumped in. I spent the next 18 months learning everything I could about health communication in the digital space. I was invited to participate in YouTube’s creator programs, including the Made for Kids Accelerator and Health Creator Residency, and eventually launched a YouTube series focused on teen wellbeing. Content creation is a career path I never could have imagined when I was a student. But the reality is, if our communication strategies don’t keep up with technology, public health risks falling behind. And now that social media has created entirely new career opportunities, digital communication is becoming a must-have skill for health professionals. It took me years to understand the emerging opportunities I could pursue within the Creator Economy. Now, I want to share what I’ve learned during the Katherine Grill Consulting Career Accelerator, a semester-long virtual program for students and young professionals exploring health career paths. During the program (which runs January - May 2027), we’ll explore how technology is changing healthcare and hear directly from professionals to get a behind-the-scenes look at the different career paths emerging in the field. 👉 You can join the waitlist to be the first to receive early access when enrollment opens this fall: https://lnkd.in/gbnvi5Cg Whether you're choosing your college major, preparing for graduate school, or navigating your first professional role, I can’t wait to take this journey with you. ✨ PS - here's some pictures from one of the studio days where we were shooting my YouTube series. Missed our Behavioral Health Tech panel on "More Good Days Online"? Here's what we discussed and why it matters. The New Mexico Department of Health Youth–Adult Partnership (YAP) brings young people and adults together as meaningful partners in public health decision-making. At the 2026 YOUth Empowerment Action (YEA) Summit, more than 120 youth, educators, policymakers, and community stakeholders convened to explore one big question: 💡 How can we promote positive youth development in the digital age? Through youth-led roundtables, participants explored topics including: → Digital vs. in-person relationships → Finding credible health information online → Emerging technologies like AI Youth and adults worked together to identify practical strategies for digital literacy, safer technology, and youth-centered policy—while young people strengthened skills, connections, and other Positive Youth Development protective factors along the way. And this is just the beginning. We’re continuing to build on these lessons, creating more opportunities for young people and adults to work together on the issues shaping youth digital well-being. Want to know more? 📘 Download the 2026 YAP Impact Report to explore our youth-adult partnership model, YEA Summit findings, and youth recommendations: https://lnkd.in/g3i8Ufed A big thank you to everyone who helped make this possible—especially the New Mexico Department of Health, our YAP Committee, SecondMuse Highlyte Apex Evaluation and our host venue the Santa Ana Star Casino Hotel #YAP #PositiveYouthDevelopment #DigitalWellbeing #PublicHealth

Day two of #BHT2026, brought to you by a popcorn machine and a teenage dream (not Katy Perry, but the one where they tell adults what to do at the Ask a Teen booth and the adults listen!) Here’s a little replay of what went down today at the BHT Impact Exhibit Hall Booth: → People stopped by to learn about BHT Impact and our work, and to grab free resources (and popcorn!) on value-based care, Medicaid, and more. → Local Nashville partners sat down with innovators to talk about engagement, real challenges, and what it takes to build solutions that work for young people, with young people. → In our Ask a Teen corner with Youth MOVE National, attendees put their questions straight to youth and young adults. Some of the best feedback of the conference happened in that corner. → Our very own YMH experts Anjlee Joshi and Amber W. Childs, Ph.D., stopped by to chat with innovators as well on all their pressing questions And at the Measuring What Matters Workshop in partnership with MCert: 15+ youth and YMH innovators dug into the three questions the field keeps circling: What is actually worth measuring? How does measurement connect to value and financial sustainability? How can measurement better reflect what matters to young people? Instead of listing the problems again, we put our collective knowledge to work on solving them with practical solutions we could go home and implement today. Then we brought it all to a panel of youth and adult experts to help us get unstuck and shed new perspectives. To everyone who stopped by, sat down, asked the hard questions, and stayed in it with us: thank you. This was a true masterclass on what authentic collaboration and co-creation alongside youth can look like, and we’re grateful rolling up the sleeves and getting into the work with us. And to the young people who generously shared their time and honest perspectives all day, you are the reason any of this works! Thank you for everything you bring into this space, including…just you. I never wanted to start my own business. I didn’t even think it was possible. As a first-generation student, getting a job with a steady paycheck seemed like the safest path. Entrepreneurship felt risky—until I realized that no career path is risk-free. ➡️ Academic research positions depend on grant funding. When the funding runs out, so can the job. ➡️ Corporate jobs offer great benefits—until a layoff leaves you unexpectedly unemployed. Entrepreneurship has risks too, but it also offers the freedom to build something of your own. That’s how I ended up founding a startup in my twenties. I spent nearly a decade as the CEO of this company, where I led a team building one of the early mobile apps designed to support student mental health. It was one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my career. Along the way, I learned some hard lessons. One of the biggest was that career security isn’t about finding the path with zero risk. It’s about understanding the risks—and deciding which ones you’re willing to take. 💡 Now, I want to share what I’ve learned with the next generation. That’s why I’m launching the Katherine Grill Consulting Career Accelerator, a semester-long virtual program for students and young professionals. During the program, which runs January - May 2027, we'll explore emerging career pathways through live virtual sessions with experts across the health ecosystem. You'll hear from startup founders and small business owners who have taken different paths, so you can decide whether entrepreneurship belongs in your career journey.
