Building on a trusted energy partnership, investing in people and shaping a shared energy future! DG MENA’s Florian Ermacora, Head of Unit A1, travelled to Oran, Algeria, to attend NAPEC 2026, where he took part in the panel “Talent & Workforce Transformation in the Energy Addition Era: Building Skills for a Multi-Energy Future” and presented T-MED, the energy flagship initiative under the Pact for the Mediterranean. 🌍 Skills, human capital and job creation are at the heart of the EU's renewed engagement with the Mediterranean. T-MED is the EU's offer to accelerate investment in renewable energy and clean technologies, deepen industrial cooperation and create economic opportunities on both shores of the Mediterranean. It aims to contribute to the upskilling and reskilling of at least 100,000 workers, equipping them with the skills needed for a diversified energy future. 🤝 Algeria is a long-standing and trusted energy partner of the EU. With its strong industrial base, well-established energy sector and young population, Algeria has solid foundations to further deepen this partnership and unlock new opportunities for investment, skills development and shared prosperity. Building on strong energy ties to deliver lasting economic and social value for people and communities across the Mediterranean. #TMED #NAPEC2026 #PactForTheMediterranean #EUAlgeria #EnergyCooperation #JobsAndSkills

This week at #UNGA81 we took another important step for the people of Gaza, joining forces with our United Nations’ partners. Together with UNICEF and UNDP Alexander De Croo, I signed the first two flagship projects under our #TeamGazaInitiative, worth €43 million. 💧€37 million with UNICEF to improve access to drinking water and reduce exposure to wastewater for around 1 million people. ♻️ €6 million with UNDP to support waste collection, transfer and recycling. These basic services are essential for people’s health and dignity. And we are ready to do more. #TeamGaza brings together nearly €1 billion in early recovery projects. Turning these commitments into results requires access and security on the ground. We will continue working with our partners to give people in Gaza a perspective and hope for a better future. Join us to make a difference! EU Mediterranean European Union Delegation to the United Nations

The Mediterranean is one of the most vulnerable regions in the world to water scarcity and the impacts of climate change. That is why the ministers and high-level officials from the 43 Member States of the Union for the Mediterranean that gathered yesterday at the 2nd Union for the Mediterranean ministerial meeting in Rome have: 💧 endorsed the Second UfM Ministerial Declaration on Water, setting out the region’s ambition and priorities for achieving water-related Sustainable Development Goals from 2026 to 2030. 💧launched the Rome Initiative on Water to help turn national goals into practical project pipelines that can attract finance and build on existing structures and frameworks, including the EU Water Resilience Strategy and the Pact for the Mediterranean launched in November 2025. 💧endorsed three strategic frameworks focusing on integrated resource management, financing, and digital transformation to make Mediterranean water systems more sustainable and resilient. Yesterday at #UNGA81, I joined UN Women to put women’s economic empowerment at the heart of our work with Southern Mediterranean partners. Women’s participation in the labour market in the region has remained at around 20% for more than two decades. We need to change this. That is why I was proud to co-launch the Surging Women’s Employment Initiative, a new flagship under our #PactForTheMediterranean. Our ambition is concrete: 👩💼 500,000 additional jobs for women 📈 +5% women’s employment by 2030 💶 €25 million mobilised, including €10 million from the EU Together with UN Women, governments, businesses and partners, we will invest in skills, entrepreneurship and job creation, including in the care, green, science and technology sectors. More women in work means unlocking more talent, stronger economies and more inclusive and prosperous societies.
