#SiliconValley Austrian Demo Night 2026 | A great turnout during SF Tech Week! 🚀 More than 140 founders, investors, mentors, and members of the Austrian and international tech community joined us at SAP in San Francisco for this year’s Austrian Demo Night. The highlight of the evening? 14 Austrian startups from our OPEN AUSTRIA GoUSA Silicon Valley 2026 program, each taking the stage for a three-minute pitch to introduce their companies, share their innovations, and connect with the Silicon Valley ecosystem. Austrian Demo Night marks an important milestone in our GoUSA program, which helps Austrian startups prepare for the U.S. market through hands-on coaching, mentoring, and access to relevant networks. Of course, there were also two awards to celebrate: 🏆 Audience Choice Award: fibionic GmbH, founded by Elias Hirschbichler and Thomas Rettenwander. The company is developing an innovative bionic fiber placement technology that makes lightweight composite structures more scalable and cost-efficient to produce. ⭐ Rising Star Award: VITAMARIE, represented by Mag. Georg Posan. Their AI-powered femtech platform uses data and wearable technology to predict hormonal changes and provide personalized recommendations for nutrition, movement, and recovery. A big thank you to SAP, especially Achim Voermanek, Kathleen Herzog-Murphy, and their team, for hosting us, and to Kal Deutsch and Jeff Wallace for their valuable coaching and support throughout the program. #SiliconValley Connecting Deep Tech Innovation with Global Capital at SF Tech Week! 🚀 How do we turn breakthrough research into successful companies, and what does it take to attract global capital to deep tech? Last week, Deeptech Bridges @ SF Tech Week brought together leading VCs, CVCs, family offices, and founders at SAP in San Francisco to discuss the future of deep tech investment. Organized by Bridges, together with OPEN AUSTRIA and strategic partner Allocator One, this event in the framework of ReFocus Austria also highlighted, the event also highlighted Austrias potential as a deep tech hub, particularly in advanced manufacturing, biotech, space, and energy. 🎙️ Our panel, “The New Deep Tech Capital Stack,” featured Niko Woischnik (Allocator One), Steven Jacobs (Drumbeat Capital), Pae Wu (SOSV), Heriberto Diarte (Catalyzer Ventures), and Victoria Slivkoff (Chemonics) moderated by Stanish Gunasekaran (Bridges). Two roundtables took the conversations further: 🔹 What enables breakout returns in early stage hardware? Kyle Petersen (3M Ventures) and Heriberto Diarte (Catalyzer Ventures) explored the importance of scalable business models, intellectual property, and building platforms rather than individual products. 🔹 Global Deep Tech Strategies: Who is well positioned and why? Petr Smid (Rockaway Ventures) and Lidiya Dervisheva (Chromium Ventures / Walter Ventures Family Office) discussed Europes competitive position, manufacturing advantages, and the opportunities and challenges of scaling internationally. The discussions reinforced how important it is to connect strong research ecosystems with the right investors, industry partners, and global markets. Our Austrian founders kicked off their Silicon Valley journey with an intensive first week, packed with learning, honest feedback, new connections, and plenty of “this is how they do it here” moments. You can find the first three days in my previous post: https://lnkd.in/gmsjHEWK The following days were just as packed: 🚀 Our partners Kal Deutsch & Jeff Wallace challenged the founders every single day. From 1:1 sessions and pitch practice to taking a hard look at their market landscape, identifying the metrics that actually matter, and turning numbers into actionable decisions. The founders worked with them on pricing strategies and what it takes to build and manage the right team for the U.S. market. ⚖️ Legal & Immigration Anna Pototschnig and Daniel Schwarzl gave the founders a practical crash course on U.S. legal pitfalls, contracts, corporate matters, AI/data privacy and immigration for foreign founders. 💡 IP Strategy Paul Kallmes shared practical insights into protecting intellectual property as a startup entering a competitive market. 👨🔬 For our healthcare & life sciences startups, we brought Markus Hauser, a true specialist in the field, to challenge, mentor, and help them navigate the U.S. market. 🤖 And we wrapped up with a special conversation on the Future of AI & LLMs with Max Stoiber, serial founder and Member of Technical Staff at OpenAI, working on the ChatGPT Apps Platform. One week. Lots of questions. Plenty of homework. And, hopefully, a few “aha” moments. 😄 And this is just the beginning. We also had a change on a very important stage: Lea Krammer took over as a volunteer from Friedrich Wendtner.
