Gerardo A. Estaba shared thisJust finished recording a nearly two-hour podcast as a guest on What The Tech (AU) with Vivienne and René. A few of the views I shared: • Every AI app is a data app in disguise. • Developers do not want less control. They want less plumbing. • Most engineering teams do not have a scaling problem. Most have a complexity problem. • AI lets more people build. Solid foundations are as important as ever. • Open source is becoming an almost existential choice for enterprises. • The market is moving away from distributed by default and back towards simple stacks that earn complexity later. That is why people now launch businesses in 36 hours, not months. • Building distributed applications before you have millions of users is often better for your resume than for your product. Stay tuned!

Gerardo A. Estaba reposted thisGerardo A. Estaba reposted thisWe are looking for someone to lead CLI development at Supabase. Who is the best Go dev that you know? They don't need CLI experience, they just need to have a good product sense. This is becoming one of the most critical interfaces for devs/agents. My pitch for Supabase: ◆ we're open source ◆ we don't do geo-adjusted pay ◆ we have an async work culture ◆ most engineers have 1 meeting per week ◆ we're full distributed across 50 countries ◆ we power the world's fasted growing companies Application link ↓ https://lnkd.in/eT6rSn4t

Gerardo A. Estaba shared thisWe're hiring Solutions Architects anywhere in APAC to help customers be successful on Supabase. Our immediate priority is to hire a versatile hands-on technologist who’ve spent enough time building and running postgres to know where the sharp edges are and how to avoid them. If you know someone that would be great, refer them to me, and if we end up hiring them, I'll get you any item from the https://supabase.store/ (check the prices) My pitch: * No pushy sales. Just help customers succeed. * We have a 100% remote, async work culture. * Cool product customers are loving. Check out our growth chart. * We power the world's fastest growing companies: over half of Y Combinator batch and the top AI-coding tools like Lovable, bolt.new, Figma Make. Gerardo A. Estaba shared thisShort version: I’m excited to share that I've joined Supabase as the first Customer Solutions Architect in APAC. First impressions: talented and egoless folks building something unique customers are loving. We’re building the SA team in APAC, reach out if interested. Long version: I knew Supabase was popular early last year, but I didn’t really “get it” until I used it myself, then it clicked. It’s simple, fast, open source, and effectively free until you get some decent user traffic. Then I remembered having bumped into Tim at AWS Summit Sydney a year earlier where he jokingly (or not?) suggested I join him at Supabase. It wasn’t the best time for me. A year later, thankfully the door was still open. What is Supabase? A platform that helps developers build in a weekend and scale to millions. Think of it as a fledgling open source cloud provider with an integrated set of dev tools built around postgres: database, APIs, auth, storage, functions, etc. It’s become a default choice for a lot of early-stage teams such as half of the Y Combinator 2025 batch and AI coding tools like Lovable, bolt.new and Figma Make. Why I think Supabase is popular. - The product: an open source alternative to Firebase with everything you need for a full-stack application, simple and radically open source. Run it yourself or run it on Supabase. - The community: a global army of builders shipping examples, answering questions, opening issues and PRs, and making the product better every week. - Customer centricity: Supabase builds in public, listens in Discord/GitHub, and ships features customers ask for. Why I’m excited: - Working with APAC startups and innovation teams. I love the thrill, scrappiness and ambition of builders, innovators and entrepreneurs. - Reuniting with my Racker buddy and all-round legend, Tim Palmer. - People here seem to be having the time of their lives. And have that rare combination of talent and no ego: just well-rounded, smart, fun people to work with. - Hard-working, autonomous, remote and async culture with minimal internal meetings and plenty of deep customer work. If you’re thinking about your next AI or app project, re-thinking your backend, or already building on Supabase, I’d love to hear what you’re building and see how we can help. And we're building the Solutions Architecture team in APAC! If you're a versatile technologist that's continuously improving, who puts customers first, is willing to do the schlep, and feels strongly about open source, reach out! Let’s go!

Gerardo A. Estaba shared thisAfter 8.5 years, I’ve made the hard decision to leave AWS for a new adventure. Without doubt, these have been the best professional years of my life. I was given opportunities I wasn’t sure I was ready for at the time, and the freedom to experiment and build while staying true to my values. I gave it my all. And it rewarded me and changed me in many ways. There are too many Amazonians I’ve admired and learned from. Many partners who trusted me to help grow their businesses. I was pushed out of my comfort zone more times than I can count. And I loved it. I don’t take any of it for granted. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Is your cloud architecture truly resilient? Let’s find out. In today’s fast-paced digital landscape, NZ enterprises face unique challenges in cloud architecture. To build resilience, we must navigate: - **Trade-offs**: Balancing latency and flexibility is crucial. Too much flexibility can lead to increased latency, compromising user experience. - **Anti-patterns**: Over-reliance on single cloud vendors can expose businesses to compliance risks. Diversification is key. - **What we do instead**: We advocate for a multi-cloud strategy, enabling redundancy and compliance with local regulations while allowing agile responses to market changes. By embedding rigorous governance, leveraging NZ’s specific market insights, and employing disciplined methodologies, we can help ensure that your cloud architecture not only meets current demands but is also resilient for future challenges. Discover how we can enhance your cloud resilience today. #EnterpriseTech #DigitalTransformation #APIs #IntegrationSolutions #DevSecOpsBestPractices #DataEngineering #AIautomation #CloudIntegration #TechConsulting #OperationalExcellence #InnovationLeadership apiconnects.co.nz | [email protected] | 092430360

Snowflake’s new user-based access controls give you targeted options when you need them most. Key opportunities for Australian enterprises: 1: Direct, precise permissions: Beyond RBAC, admins can grant user-level privileges. Faster provisioning and time-bound access for pilots and specialists. 2: Secondary roles for flexibility: With UBAC, sessions can inherit all assigned roles (USE SECONDARY ROLES = ALL). Great for multi-disciplinary teams—pair with strong monitoring and clear policies. 3: Smarter governance: UBAC shifts how you audit. With clear standards and automated checks, you keep audits efficient and entitlements transparent. 4: RBAC still the default: RBAC scales cleanly; UBAC is the extra tool for specific, high-value cases. The win isn’t UBAC alone—it’s aligning it with your governance to safely accelerate delivery and support digital transformation.

We store data in Australia” ≠ Data sovereignty Here’s what most vendors don’t tell you: The 3 controls that actually matter: 1️⃣ Data at rest: Where stored data lives 2️⃣ Data in motion: Where data flows during processing 3️⃣ Regional processing: Where real-time compute happens Most providers control #1. Few control #2. Almost none control #3. At Telnyx, we built Australian infrastructure that controls all three. Your voice calls? Processed in Sydney. Your AI transcription? Runs on Australian GPUs. Your stored data? Never leaves the country. That’s what sovereign cloud should mean. Learn more:https://vist.ly/4tcdr

Cloud costs are still climbing for a lot of ANZ organisations, even as data growth slows down. ☁️ The reason is usually the same: teams are paying to protect data they don't fully understand, across multiple clouds, with overlapping tools and patchy visibility into what's actually being backed up. 📊 44% of ANZ leaders say their biggest concern is incomplete or inconsistent backups. But many of those same organisations are spending more on storage than on their ability to actually recover. That's the gap worth closing. When you consolidate backup and security tools, a few things happen at once: 💰 Costs come down. 🛡️ Duplicated data shrinks and so does your attack surface. 🔍 Fewer tools means fewer blind spots, and recovery becomes faster and cleaner when you need it most. Cost-saving initiatives don't have to stop at renegotiating storage contracts. If you're already doing a review, it's worth asking whether simplification could do double duty, reducing spend and strengthening resilience at the same time. 🎯Happy to have that conversation if it's on your radar this year.
